Don Mueang International Airport Review

What’s tolerable:

  1. There is free internet
  2. There is no noticeable smell

On the downside:

  1. It’s too damn hot
  2. It looks depressing
  3. No orderly boarding

Don Mueang International Airport is the worst. Tons of discount airlines fly out of the facility, but not even the cheap airfares makes flying out of here bearable. The recently revamped the domestic terminal at Don Mueang isn’t as bad as the international terminal, but that doesn’t make it good either. Especially if you have to be bused to the plane.

What really grinds my gears about Don Mueang International Airport is that I’ve never once been able to board a plane in an orderly fashion. People will literally start queuing up to board hours before a flight will leave. Even if the airline has a system to board passengers, this horde of people basically renders the process moot.

Maybe this wouldn’t be so annoying if the airport wasn’t always way too hot. You hear the sound of air conditioners, but they seem to only be making noise as no cold air can be felt. It’s cool though because you can enjoy a nice, overpriced McDonald’s or Krispe Kreme in a cramped food court that has like seven tables.

The only plus about Don Mueang International Airport is that there are a few destinations, especially domestic ones, where you can find non-stop flights.

However, I basically avoid the airport whenever possible. Arrival immigration lines here are constantly long and we haven’t even mentioned the departure zone which has all the charm and order of an Insane Clown Posse mosh pit minus the makeup.

This Don Mueang International Airport Review will end with one positive. Getting through security is actually quite fast at both the domestic and international terminals. So, there is something to look forward to.

Interesting tip: Leave early. Getting to the airport is an absolute nightmare and predicting traffic is impossible. There are a few public buses you can catch from the Mo Chit BTS station to the airport. But if you plan on doing this, leave even earlier because sometimes these buses never appear.
