Having all the documents you need for a Thailand marriage visa (Non-Immigrant O visa) before you apply is the only way to ensure your application is approved. Unfortunately, finding any sort of official list is a challenge. Most of the available information online is either out of date or conflicting. That’s suboptimal to say the least.
With that in mind, here are the confirmed documents you are going to need when applying for a Thailand marriage visa. Some other embassies may have a few additional requirements and you should always check before applying.

Documents you need for a Thailand marriage visa
1) Visa application
A completed visa application must be at the top of your stack of documents. You should download and print this from the embassy or consulate website where you will be applying. Please note that many Thai embassies and consulates have stopped providing hard copies. You will be turned away and required to print this somewhere else should you arrive without one.
2) Passport photo
While not a document, this is a reminder that your application needs a passport photo attached. Check the application for size requirements.
3) A copy of your passport ID page
This is pretty straightforward. Just have a black and white copy of the ID page, the one with your picture, of your passport.
4) Marriage certificate
Include a copy of your Thai marriage certificate along with any other proof of marriage you may have. This can be an overseas marriage certificate but that alone will not be enough for you to receive the Non-Immigrant O visa for marriage. The union needs to be registered in Thailand.
5) A copy of your Thai partner’s Thai ID card
This should be a copy of your partner’s Thai ID card, NOT their passport. A copy of their passport is not required.
6) A copy of your Thai partner’s Thai house registration
Also known as the Tabien Baan, a copy of your partner’s Thai house registration should also be included.
7) Six-month bank statement in Thailand with a balance of THB400,000
Firstly, this has to be from a Thai bank with Thai baht as the currency. You will need to have at least THB400,000 in the account for six months is advisable. Another option is a monthly income of at least THB40,000 that is paid directly into your Thai bank account. From my experience, this tends to be more problematic to prove.
You can pick up a six-month statement at any branch of your bank in Thailand. Do not attempt to print this off yourself. The bank will stamp the statement to make it official. A self-printed statement will see your visa application rejected.
Other documents
While none of these documents are universally required, having them may be helpful in specific locations. After all, you can never be too prepared when applying for a Thai visa.
- Pictures of you and your partner
- Pictures of your residence in Thailand
- Copy of Thai partner’s passport
- Copy of Thai bank book
Many embassies and consulates are now requiring visa applicants to book an appointment ahead of time. Do not assume you can stroll in with your paperwork and apply for a Thailand marriage visa (Non-Immigrant O visa). In these cases, you are required to present proof of your appointment, either printed or on your phone.
Finally, be sure to double and triple check the website of the embassy you are applying at for more details before you go. The staff there will not provide assistance should you not come prepared. Furthermore, many foreign missions have stopped providing applications on-site. The days of showing up, filling out your application, and picking up your visa the next day are gone.
