Thai firm Prime Road Power plans on bringing its solar power farms and solar panel installation services to Indonesia as it looks to support the country’s clean energy efforts. There are enormous opportunities for renewable players as attempts are made to shift away from gas and coal.
The Indonesian government has already announced plans for 23 percent of all fuels used for electricity generation to be phased out by 2025 with a target of 31 percent set for 2050. Prime Road Power Chairman and Founder Khun Somprasong Panjalak told local media that the company is opening an office in Jakarta and has its sights set on a few projects.
For example, the Thailand-based company has already stated it will put in a bid for a utility-scale renewable energy development project under state-run grid operator PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN).
Prime Road Power already has experience working overseas with the renewables player currently building five solar farms with a combined capacity of 8.8 megawatts in Taiwan. According to Khun Somprasong, the firm is also exploring opportunities in the rooftop solar power business.
In Thailand, the solar energy company has formed a joint venture with the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand to promote solar power development at industrial estates across the country. This is part of an attempt to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the industrial sector.

Interesting Analysis
Entering Indonesia is worth a try for Prime Road Power, although it is not the easiest market to gain a foothold in. While attempts are being made to move to renewable energy, the country still lags behind others in Southeast Asia with others trying to make inroads having come up short in recent years.
On the other hand, Taiwan has proven to be a viable market for its solar business offerings and the firm seems poised to expand its presence there further over the next few years.
