BREAKING: COVID-19 outbreak closes Ekkamai bars for Songkran

Ekkamai bars will be closed for Songkran although restaurants look to have been spared

Bad news for anyone looking to party around Ekkamai during Songkran this year. Entertainment venues in Watthana, the district Ekkamai is located in, and two other Bangkok districts have been ordered to close from April 6-19.

A total of 196 venues will be affected by the move. The decision to shut down Ekkamai bars for Songkran comes shortly after a COVID-19 outbreak was discovered at several bars in the area.

More than 100 people were infected with COVID-19 in the Ekkamai/Thonglor area with additional cases likely to be discovered in the coming days. Mass testing was taking place at Arena 10 today.

There had been reports the government would require restaurants to close at 9pm and ban alcohol from being served here as well. However, no mention of this has been made public and eateries not mentioned seem to be allowed to carry on as normal.

Ekkamai bars will now be close for Songkran which is a huge blow for the clubs of Arena 10, an entertainment complex located on Ekkamai 5/Thonglor 10. These are among Bangkok’s most popular party spots but are now set to miss a second consecutive year of business.
