MatDet Muay Thai Gym is offering new customers a special trial. You can receive three personal boxing lessons for only THB1,000. Keep reading to learn more.
While there are no shortage of gyms offering boxing classes in Bangkok and Thailand as a whole, getting one-on-one personal training can be quite pricy. This usually means you are stuck in group sessions which can be hit and miss. However, MatDet Muay Thai Gym is taking a different approach by offering affordable Thai boxing private lessons in Bangkok.
In fact, there are no group classes at MatDet. The gym’s owners believe that private instruction is not only more effective than group boxing classes, but more fun as well. It is why they chose to focus on making one-on-one sessions available to everyone.
And that brings us to the strength of MatDet. It offers affordable Thai boxing private lessons in Bangkok. Prices range anywhere from THB500 to THB700 per session depending on the package you select. I purchased a package of five classes which was valid for a three-month period. This worked for me as I only wanted to go once or twice a week.
If you’re really looking to get the most bang for your buck, the gym has an annual buffet package where you can go as many times as you want each year. Peak hours are between 5pm and 7pm Monday through Friday. The cheapest packages offered by the gym are ones focusing on non-peak hours only.

Are the affordable Thai boxing private lessons in Bangkok any good?
The private boxing lessons at MatDet are just as good as those more expensive boxing gyms along Sukhumvit. If you’ve never done private boxing lessons, they are awesome. Not only is it a better overall workout, but the individual instruction means you are able to work on form.
One thing I learned during my first session was just how poor my stance was when doing kicks. The teacher took the time to correct how I was doing things and I really appreciated that. That’s because this is something most instructors don’t do during group classes. Maybe they will give you a pointer here or there, but there isn’t enough time to fix what you are doing due to the fact there are other students.
Each boxer at the gym has a unique training style, and MatDet recommends trying different trainers which I found to be good advice. There were some boxers who focused more on cardio and speed work while others created sessions built around learning different strikes. Changing up your trainer each time ensures you don’t get bored.
The trainers can work with all levels of students from beginners to more advanced boxers seeking a challenge. MatDet also specializes in working with children so you can bring in your son or daughter and let them try it out as well.
Equipment is provided although it’s recommended you purchase your own fist wraps if you visit regularly. The gym itself never feels cramped because there are no group classes. You don’t have to worry about running into someone else or interfering with someone else’s workout.
The boxers speak a small amount of English. If you’ve ever done boxing, you already know that English isn’t really required for training. However, you might be disappointed if you’re looking for a chat.
It should be noted that most of the front desk staff does speak English and can answer any questions you may have. Finally, MatDet does offer personal training with certified trainers if you’re into that sort of thing.

MatDet Muay Thai Gym location and final thoughts
MatDet Muay Thai Gym can be found in the B-Pro Sports Complex on Bangna-Trad 23. It’s located on the same street as Central Bangna and is in between that and Udom Suk road. Parking is available if you’re driving. If you’re taking the BTS, get off at Udom Suk Station and hop on a motorbike from there. Drivers should know B-Pro or you can just tell them Bangna-Trad 23.
Overall, MatDet Muay Thai Gym is impressive. It’s difficult to find affordable Thai boxing private lessons in Bangkok and the fact you can get one-on-one instruction for less than THB1,000 a session is amazing. The boxing instructors do a really good job of keeping things fun. If you’re looking for a cheap way to change up your workout routine, this can’t be beat.
