Hard Rock Hotel Penang Review
What’s tolerable:
- Close to the beach
- It’s a Hard Rock
On the downside:
- Not so memorable memorabilia
- Busy
Alright, I know not every Hard Rock Hotel can have the best memorabilia, but the company seemed to go out of its way to stiff the Hard Rock Hotel Penang. The centerpiece was some dress Taylor Swift might have worn once like six years ago.
That’s not a huge issue, but the hotel gets quite busy which is a turn off. Check-in/Check-out can be quite hectic, although the staff does handle it well. Prices at Hard Rock Hotel Penang are the same as the brand’s other properties. These might be a tad high for those who’ve never stayed in a Hard Rock before.
This is a Hard Rock property and you get everything you’d expect to find all things considered. It’s millions of times better than its gross sister, the Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya. (Editor’s note: the Pattaya property is fine, but you’ll find a lot of sexpats with their skeezy ladies inside. This is something that can be said for all of Pattaya.) The resort also does a nice job of capturing the beach surroundings and the open lobby is a nice place to relax.
The hotel claims to have Penang’s largest free-form swimming pool which is something I guess. I don’t care to measure the others, so I’ll take their word for it. There is also a nice workout room with a sign that states you must wear shoes and appropriate clothing inside.
The sign did not stop a group of people shoeless and in their underwear from coming to workout. And by workout I mean slam weights around really loudly and spill water on the treadmill. They’ll be Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson ripped in no time.
Overall, the Hard Rock Hotel Penang is worth staying at if you’re in Penang and don’t want to be in Georgetown proper.
Interesting tip: There is a small Hard Rock shop near the lobby, but there is also a larger one next to the restaurant. You will be gouged on price either place you go.
