Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Review

Location: Orchard Road, Singapore

What’s tolerable:

  1. Great location
  2. Personality
  3. Work/life balance

On the downside:

  1. Buffet tries too much
  2. Small fitness center

I like Hotel Jen Orchardgateway, but I think a lot of that has to do with the location. I enjoy Orchard Road and being connected to Orchardgateway is awesome. The metro and buses are literally right outside the property. It’s close to everything, but honestly, you can say that about most places in Singapore.

As far as the hotel goes, it is a place where you can always find a place to get work done. There is no need to feel as if you’re limited to your room in order to get stuff completed. But if you plan on taking calls, stay in your room. That stuff in public areas is annoying.

Rooms at the property are nice, but don’t stand out one way or another. The hotel’s branding and personality does stand out, however. It is playful and fun and gives Hotel Jen Orchardgateway some character that you won’t find at other Orchard Road hotels.

If you’re looking for a place to relax, the rooftop pool is a good place to start. There’s also a bar/lounge that wasn’t entirely dead when I passed by in the evenings. You’ll also find a few different activities such as yoga hosted up on the deck here during the day. Not for me, but it could be your thing.

Makan@Jen is the property’s on-site buffet restaurant. There is a rather large selection for both breakfast and dinner, but it wasn’t anything special. You’re better off heading to one of the seemingly thousands of restaurants on Orchard Road. If you’re looking for something cheap, there’s a hawker center about five minutes away on foot. Just watch out for the hookers cruising the street it’s located on.

Let’s conclude this Hotel Jen Orchardgateway review with one final thought. It’s expensive, but so too are all Singapore hotels. What’s up with that? It is almost as bad as Paris.

Interesting tip: Hotel Jen Orchardgateway has vending machines on every level containing snacks, beverages and travel items such as adapters you might have forgotten. This was amazing because I did forget my adapter.
