The newest InterContinental hotel will open in Thailand next year and it is one of the legendary brand’s most ambitious projects to date. InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping is a conversion of the renowned Imperial Mae Ping Hotel that aims to capture the city’s spirit while providing guests with a sense of discovery.
This is the latest hotel to open as part of a strategic partnership between IHG Hotels & Resorts and developer Asset World Corporation. The duo tabbed the design team from PIA Interior Company Limited to create a memorable look that embraced Chiang Mai’s Lanna heritage.
Perhaps the most impressive design element of InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping is how it captures the slow life people love about Chiang Mai while still being situated in the heart of the city. Popular spots, such as the night bazaar and Tha-Pae Gate, may be right around the corner, but the beautiful grounds ensure a peaceful ambiance.
InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping will boast 240 rooms and suites with these featuring views of either the city or Doi Suthep mountain. These feature Lanna-inspired décor along with zen bathrooms and a host of other features visitors can enjoy after a day of exploring.
However, the most impressive aspect of the hotel is without a doubt the manicured lawn that encloses Wat Chang Kong which can be reserved for private functions. The 600-year-old stupa nestled in the shadow of a centuries-old tree is expected to be the city’s most popular events space once open.
Speaking of the opening, that is scheduled for mid-2023. In the meantime, IHG Hotels & Resorts and Asset World Corporation will continue focusing on other hotels as part of their arrangement. These include the highly anticipated InterContinental Bangkok Chinatown and a pair of Kimpton properties.
