Phnom Penh welcomes another international hotel brand

The opening of Fairfield by Marriott Phnom Penh gives Phnom Penh another international hotel brand

Anyone who has traveled to Phnom Penh or Cambodia as a whole knows that finding an international hotel brand there can be difficult. This isn’t to say there are none. But when compared to other regional capitals, the choices are limited. Especially when it comes to well-known properties outside the luxury segment.

Fairfield by Marriott Phnom Penh is helping to change that. It can be found in Chip Mong Tower, a modern, mixed-use development that also includes a shopping mall, office space, a large cinema and leisure facilities. The hotel is close to commercial and government offices along with popular attractions, such as Wat Phnom Temple, the National Museum and the Royal Palace.

“The opening of Fairfield by Marriott Phnom Penh is an important milestone for Marriott International, as we continue to expand our footprint in Asia’s most exciting up-and-coming destinations. Fairfield by Marriott Phnom Penh will be our second property in Phnom Penh and fourth property in Cambodia. We look forward to welcoming guests to this dynamic destination,” Jakob Helgen, Area Vice President of Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia & Myanmar, Marriott International, noted.

The property will feature 300 guestrooms with each one providing mobile workspaces, 55-inch cable TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi. Fairfield by Marriott Phnom Penh also boasts a ballroom and two meeting spaces.

However, the most impressive feature just may be the Phnom Penh skyline views found at the infinity pool located on the 28th floor. The fitness center also allows guests to gaze at sunrises and sunsets while they work out.

Interesting Analysis

It is good for Phnom Penh to have another international hotel brand operating in the city, especially one not in the luxury segment. The city’s largest hospitality challenge in recent times has been a lack of property diversity.

You have a range of 5-star hotels, some boutique properties and then a lot of rooms in the budget segment. That usually means your options are to spend US$150+ or something below $US30+ nightly. The Fairfield by Marriott Phnom Penh and similar brands are helping close the gap and provide visitors with more options.
