Fairmont Hotels & Resorts will make its entrance into Thailand after developer Asset World Corporation and Accor unveiled a partnership to open multiple hotels across the Kingdom. The first will be the Fairmont Bangkok Sukhumvit which is slated to welcome guests in 2024.

The hotel will be situated near Asoke junction and close to the bustling Sukhumvit Road in downtown Bangkok. Plans call for the Fairmont Bangkok Sukhumvit to contain 419 rooms in addition to a full slate of F&B offerings, swimming pool, fitness center and spa.

However, the most unique aspect of the property will be the fact that it claims to be the first fully integrated luxury Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) hotel in Thailand. With the Kingdom aiming to be a hub for the MICE sector, the addition of these facilities could support that goal even further.

“At AWC, we have recognized that the luxury meeting market has become one of the fastest growing segments since the end of the pandemic, with AWC’s occupancy rate for MICE almost doubling between 2021 and 2022. As one of the most popular destinations in the world for both leisure and business travelers, Bangkok is renowned for its food and culture, and its reputation as a lifestyle destination with strong logistics infrastructure and convenient transportation,” Khun Wallapa Traisorat, Chief Executive Officer and President, Asset World Corporation, stated. “Therefore, Fairmont Bangkok Sukhumvit will be ideally positioned to meet the needs of a new era of luxury events with a distinctive and unique design.”

Interesting Analysis

The number of new hotel rooms slated to come online in Bangkok over the next few years is massive. However, the Fairmont Bangkok Sukhumvit is positioned a little differently from others scheduled to open. In particular, the MICE focus could ensure it stands out from competitors.

On the surface, the Asoke location may seem odd, but it will also be near the recently reopened Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. Being one of only a few true 5-star options within the general vicinity should be a strong selling point as well.

Let’s not forget that during the 2022 APEC Meetings, most dignitaries were stationed around Wireless Road and Lumphini Park due to a lack of supply around the convention center.
